Environment

**You cannot change people, only their environment. **

Regardless of what you are trying to achieve as a leader, always have people’s environment in mind. That includes their peers, the management, people reporting to them, but also the people they are surrounded with in their personal life.

You have probably noticed that people behave differently in different settings. You behave differently in front of your partner, your parents, or your boss, don’t you?

People will always act according to their environment. If they have motivated professional individuals around them, they will act like this. If there is only childish behavior around them, guess what, they won’t act in your best interest.

Keep this in mind when you think about team dynamics. Is there someone who influences the team in a negative or positive way? When you put someone into a team that behaves like a pro, he will either influence the team in a way or will be influenced by the team.

So if you want people to behave differently, you have to change their environment.
